I am Doctor in Chemistry and MBA and Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Alcalá. My research focuses on Environmental Chemistry and Engineering, mainly on the occurrence and effects of incidental micro- and nanoplastics, the fate and toxicity of aqueous (micro)pollutants and the biological effect of engineered nanomaterials, including the preparation of nanostructured antimicrobial surfaces. I participated in over forty research projects and research contracts and co-authored about one hundred and fifty scientific articles (Scopus H-index 40). I'm associate editor of RSC Advances, Nanotechnology for Environmental Engineering (Springer), Microplastics (MDPI), and Toxics (MDPI). I supervised twenty PhD students in four different universities.
